Travis Kraft and Tuesday Vargas shine in Filipino movie Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Rin

Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Rin is a film like no other. This is probably the first, and only Thanksgiving Day movie to come from the Philippines. It is also probably the first Filipino movie where the main subject matter deals with a relationship between a Filipina and an American.

The story centers on the relationship between Matthew(Travis Kraft) and Cookie(Tuesday Vargas). When an American relocates to the Philippines for work, he meets a typical, lower-class Filipina off a dating website but the film focusses on their relationship after they are already living together. Because of cultural differences,  some problems and funny situations ensue.

Tuesday Vargas is a rollercoaster of emotions and a lot of fun to watch. She knows when to play for laughs but can be really touching in quieter, emotional scenes. Travis Kraft is just what this movie needed to work. He is the perfect choice and adds a lot of balance with his more natural and subdued acting style. He is a bit out of step with the rest of the cast which is a good thing because that is exactly how his character would be in real life if an American was thrown in with a crazy group of Filipinos.

The rest of the supporting cast are terrific and add plenty of comedy. This is the directorial debut of Randolph Longjas and it is an amazing first effort. I can't wait to see what else he directs.

Accident (2009)

Louis Koo still looks plenty handsome in this thriller directed by Soi Cheang even though he wears dorky glasses throughout the film.

The picture of the film looks beautiful and it is very artistically done but the movie is extremely slow movie and contains zero action.

Accident is a decent thriller that fits in well with the other Milkyway Image films.

King of Comedy (1999)

King of Comedy is a very special and charming comedy/drama starring Stephen Chow, Karen Mok, and Cecilia Cheung. Chow is as cute and sweet as ever. Karen Mok stands out even though she is third lead as a Hong Kong movie star. Ms. Mok also did the music. I didn't know much about her before. She is a very talented actress and singer.

This is Chow's early work as a director, but it stands out in his career because of its subtlety and earnestness.

Shanghai Affairs (1998)

Donnie Yen stars in this melodramatic, late 90's action flick. The movie is ok, but goes over the top often.

How Bruce Lee Changed the Wolrd (2009)

History Channel just aired a great new Bruce documentary. It is fantastic to see a modern documentary on him. This 2-hour film deals with how he influenced people from all walks of life. From musicians to comedians to athletes and actors.

Bruce Lee is more than just martial arts...he represents being the best or at least being the best you can possibly be.

The Leg Fighters aka Invincible Kung Fu Legs (1978)

The Leg Fighters is an independent released martial arts film directed by Lee Tso Nam, starring Dorian Tan Tao-Liang and Ha Kwong Li and it is an above average old-school fu film.

I was impressed with the athletic and acrobatic prowess of Dorian Tan and especially impressed with the beautiful Ha Kwong Li. I am not normally into chicks fighting but Ha Kwong Li is is extremely graceful and flexible.

Another thing that is impressive is The Leg Fighters is an independent film and it rivals The Sammo Hung films from the same period.

The Leg Fighters is a fun, old movie.
